Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the recruitment of elementary school teachers, clerical officers, and watchmen in the state’s 22 local government council districts.
Hon. Victor Ebonka, Chairman of the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, announced the approval on Friday while speaking to reporters at the conclusion of the State Joint Account Allocation Committee, JAAC, meeting in Asaba.
“At today’s JAAC meeting, His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori granted approval for 22 of the 25 Local Government Councils to immediately employ primary school teachers in their respective Local Government Councils,” Ebonka stated.
“There will be no uniform number of positions available because each Local Government Council will consider those who have retired from their councils.” As a result, the number of employees will differ from one council to the next.
“We have engaged forensic experts who are currently auditing the accounts to ensure that the actual accruals are paid to the pensioners.”
In response to rumors of a large windfall for councils, Ebonka stated, “We heard from the rumour mill that approximately N1.9 trillion will be distributed for the month of July.”
