About National Directorate of Employment

In response to the urgent need to create a long-term organizational framework to address Nigeria’s unemployment issue, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) was founded in 1986. For developing nations in general and Nigeria in particular, the 1980s global economic slump had gotten progressively worse. The country’s industries were completely shut down as a result of a sharp decrease in capacity utilization. The Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), the devaluation of the naira, the privatization and commercialization of the economy, etc., are examples of other macroeconomic policies that the government of the day adopted.

As a result, there were significant employment losses in the economy’s governmental and private sectors. Accordingly, as a result of the previously mentioned negative scenario, unemployment increased from 4.3% in 1985 to 7.0% at the start of 1987.
