Unknown assailants shot and killed a police inspector on escort duty at a well-known hotel in the DLine neighborhood of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday night, August 25.

Eyewitnesses said that the policeman was escorting a VIP when he was stopped by the gunmen, who were reportedly driving a Toyota Corolla.

According to reports, the attackers shot the policeman before fleeing with his beret and military AK-47 rifle.

The state police command’s spokesman, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the event and added that a manhunt had been started by the police to apprehend the evading attackers.

“On August 25, 2023, at or around 2030 hours, information was obtained that Inspector’m’, who was assigned to the Department of Operations in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, had been fatally shot in the head while accompanying his principal around the Landmark Hotel in Port Harcourt.

His beret and gun were taken away in a wagon. Patrol squads were dispatched to the area right away. The fugitive hoodlums are being hunted down, and the firearm is being recovered. She stated that the body had been taken to the Military Hospital in Port Harcourt for an autopsy.
