Results for 262,803 applicants who took the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been delayed by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
From May 8 to June 23, 2023, seven weeks were devoted to the exam.
Patrick Areghan, the Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO) for WAEC, told reporters on Monday in Lagos that 16.29% of the 1,613,733 exam-takers had their results withheld.
“The explanations for this are plausible. Candidates are not prepared for exams, they lack confidence, and they are no longer prepared to study. There is an excessive dependence on the fictitious so-called “Expo.” When candidates learned that all they had celebrated was fictitious when they arrived at the examination room, they became frustrated.
His statement is as follows: “The outcomes of 262,803 applicants, representing The so-called “expo” (illegally searching for question papers outside of examination venues), he advised parents to stop funding for their kids, would continue to be sanctioned by the council, he claimed.
