An unnamed female undergraduate student at the University of Lagos, Akoka, has accused Dr. Kadiri, a lecturer at the institution, of rape.
The student said that the incident happened when she went to the lecturer’s office to discuss a problem with her test results.
According to a non-governmental organization, Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, where the victim filed the allegation, the lecturer allegedly raped the undergraduate on August 16, 2023, instead of addressing her exam-related concerns.
Following a referral from InclusiveSWEF to the state police command’s Gender Unit, Idowu Owohunwa, the state CP, obtained an arrest warrant for the lecturer through the state High Court and included the university’s vice chancellor.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police’s public relations officer, verified the occurrence and stated that “He is to appear in court in the coming days.”
Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, a spokesman for UNILAG, responded by stating that the university was aware of an investigation involving one of its employees.
She stated, “On August 28, UNILAG Management got a notice from the Nigeria Police Force inviting a university employee for questioning. The employee was notified of the situation and given instructions to follow right away.
“The employee complied on August 29. Although we do not yet know all of the specifics of the incident that resulted in the employee’s detention, we are aware that the investigation is still underway and we are working with security agencies to make sure that the matter is resolved in the interest of justice.”
